Abstract
A series of 34 traumatic liver injuries was here in reported and a few literatures reviewed.
1) Penetrating wounds were 6 cases and 28 cases of nonpenetrating injuries were due to traffic
accident, direct ciolence and falling, in order of frequency.
2) Of the 34 cases, right lobe was involved in 23 cases, left lobe in 8 cases. In 3 cases, both lobe
were injured.
In other case, traumatic rupture of amebic abscess with lacerration of right love developed after
blunt trauma.
Associated injuries of chest or abdominal structures were available in 20 cases.
3) 33 cases were treated with necessary surgical procedure using Gelform in 8 cases, intrahepatic
drainage in 2 cases and in 3 cases, common bile duct decompression by T-tube insertion.
4) 5 postoperative death (14.7%) and 15 postoperative complications were developed.
5) Intrahepatic drainage seems to be valuable to avoid secondary rupture in deep lacerations of
liver.
6) It seem valuable to perform the biliary decompression in case of central injury of the liver to
promote wound healing and minimize the postoperative complication.
7) Under the age of 10. mortality rate was 50% in contrast over all mortality. 14.7%. This
possibly due to extensiveness in liver laceration of children and irreversible shock following hemo
rrhage.
